ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

Ten years of cars back at The Bridge.  What a thing.  What started with some 60 cars displayed by friends of Bob, Shamin, and me at our little garden party has blossomed into the over 350 vehicles on site today.  That first year, I sketched out designs for the displays in a kitchen in Wainscott the night before the show, and a few friends helped place the cars artfully around the clubhouse in pairings that we thought would resonate with our guests – everyone from the causal appreciator of beautiful objects to the diehard enthusiast.  We all knew one another to some degree; it was our original Bridge family.   

Despite the passing of a decade and nearly three hundred more cars on site today, things are largely the same – and we are better for it.  We still use visual storytelling – arranging vehicles in ways that obviate the need for placards, instead opting to use history, design cues, and sometimes, just great colors to do the talking -- although we now have the aid of AutoCAD and our loyal architect Jacobo Mingorance, as well as over 50 volunteers led by Greg Strassberg.  I’d also venture to say that everyone here knows someone who is part of that original Bridge family, as we have grown organically, largely through word of mouth from friend to friend and collector to collector.  

As I do every year, I invite you to take the long stroll around the exhibition, from the clubhouse to the 9th hole, through the entirety of the 18th, and not forgetting the laid-back vibes of Bridge Beach. Grab a drink and a bite (we’ve brought back many of our favorites), and wander past groupings of white Porsche RS cars, Ferrari Testarossas of all colors, our ode to New York transit and the drive-in movie theater, as well as an incredible collection of Mercedes-Benz vehicles at the clubhouse. Slow down and take notice: it’s the juxtaposition of these incredible vehicles against the raw and beautiful background that sets The Bridge apart.
