1964 Alfa Romeo GTZ-1 Corsa
1964 Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ, s/n 750052
The TZ represents Alfa’s factory efforts to return to racing. Final assembly of the cars was overseen by Carlo Chiti at Autodelta. Shortly thereafter, Autodelta became Alfa’s in-house performance and racing shop.
“TZ” stands for Tubolare Zagato. Zagato had been creating lightened GT bodywork for road-going Giuliettas for a number of years. For these racing cars, Zagato created a space frame of small-bore tubing and covered it with lightened aluminum panels.
