1973 GMC New Look Suburban – Metropolitan Suburban Bus Authority No. 117

This 1973 GMC S8H-5304A New Look Suburban is one of the original buses delivered to the newly formed Metropolitan Suburban Bus Authority (MSBA) in 1973. As one of the first publicly operated suburban transit buses on Long Island, Bus 117 represents the beginning of a new chapter in the region's transportation history.

Built specifically for commuter service, bus 117 features forward facing suburban seating and is powered by the legendary two-stroke 8v71 Detroit Diesel paired with an automatic transmission. Its model designation denotes -

Its classic "New Look" styling, nicknamed the "Fishbowl" for its distinctive curved windshield, became one of the most recognizable bus designs in North America.

More than fifty years after entering service, Bus 117 has been meticulously restored to its original MSBA livery and is proudly owned, restored, and preserved by the Randazzo family, whose auto and bus repair business has been serving Long Island for over three decades.

While bus 117 may be unlike any other vehicle you encounter at The Bridge, its story is deeply connected to the same era of Long Island history. As Bridgehampton's race circuit drew competitors, spectators and enthusiasts, buses like 117 provided everyday transportation that helped bring people to these events and to the communities surrounding them.
