1985 Renault Supercinque Sottsass

This Renault Supercinque one-off by Ettore Sottsass is part of an 8 artist series commissioned by Renault Italia to celebrate and publicize the launch of the new Super 5. The car was designed by none other than Marcello Gandini, and the 8 artists involved were notably icons of postmodern design , architecture, fashion, and even Italian Arte Povera: Gianfranco Ferrè, Alessandro Mendini, Mario Merz, Ugo Nespolo, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Paolo Portoghesi, Ettore Sottsass, and Franco Maria Ricci. The car resurfaced in Italy in recent years and was owned and driven by a local architect in a small town for its life. It has been restored and is fully documented with supporting paperwork. I imported this car to the US and it lives in my living room inside my house along other postmodern art and design pieces in Wilton, CT.
