1955 BMW R50 with Steib Sidecar

The BMW R50 was BMW's second post-World War II 500 cc motorcycle, following the briefly produced R51/2. It featured a flat-twin engine and exposed drive shaft. In 1951, the R51/3 succeeded and modernized the 1950 R51/2, which was essentially a pre-war design that was produced after the war.
Significance: Introduced BMW's new "Earles Fork" front suspension.
Engine: 494cc boxer engine.
Features: Designed for sidecar use, improved handling and stability.
Performance: Produced 26 horsepower.
The model passed the sporting test with a bravura performance at the Six Day Race  1954 the R 50 was aimed primarily at the sporting solo rider, though it also proved its worth on more lengthy tours and with a sidecar.
