1967 Mercedes-Benz 250 SL
This 1967 Mercedes-Benz 250SL, featured in Papyrus White with blue interior, is a late production car, having been delivered in December 1967. Mercedes built 5,196 250SLs, the lion's share of which were made in 1967. Just under 10 percent of the production run were made with a manual 4-speed transmission - so fewer than 500 cars - and this car is among them. This 250SL was delivered by Palmer Motors in Long Beach, CA to its first owner, Mr. Carrol Bingham on December 6, 1967. It lived in California its entire life until the current owner purchased it from Mr. Barry Dorr of San Diego, CA in February 2023. Barry's mother, Kathleen, had owned the car for nearly 50 years and made her son swear he would never sell it, a promise he made with his fingers crossed behind his back. Shortly after making the purchase in 1976, Kathleen enlisted one of her sons for a spirited drive, looking to validate that the car could indeed exceed 100 MPH. She was not disappointed. A devoted horsewoman, she could often be seen driving to the stables with bales of hay in the trunk and her dog in the passenger seat. Kathleen's red driving gloves remain the glovebox today - an homage to her love for the car and her faithful stewardship over such a long period of ownership (among other things, every service record / invoice from 1967 to the present remains with the car). This 250SL has never been restored, retaining much of its original, factory Papyrus White exterior paint and the original, factory interior. Fittingly, adorning the car is its original black California license plate reading WAP 074.
