A Fusion of Analog Soul and Turbocharged Power
Unveiling the
F-26
SCROLL
Gunther Werks continues its mission to elevate the air-cooled Porsche 993, this time with its most extreme remastering yet: the F-26 Turbo Slantnose. Merging the razor-sharp dynamics of the naturally aspirated GWR with the immense force of their Turbo program, the latest build is capped by a dramatic, fully carbon Slantnose front end that pays homage to Porsche’s most distinctive design era.
Inspired by the 930 Flachbau and 935 racers of the 1970s and ’80s, the F-26 isn’t just a styling exercise. It eliminates the pop-up headlights of the original in favor of LED improving airflow and reducing drag. Entirely re-engineered in carbon fiber, the new front end integrates functional aero elements like reshaped ducts and cooling channels, delivering gains in downforce, thermal management, and high-speed stability.
At its core is a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter Porsche Mezger flat-six engine co-developed with Rothsport Racing producing 1,000 horsepower and 750 lb.-ft. of torque. Channeling output to the rear wheels via an upgraded six-speed manual transmission, the engine runs on high-octane ethanol and features adaptive fuel mapping, a flat-fan layout, water-to-air charge cooling, and a 935-style exhaust with external wastegates. Engine management is handled by a Motec ECU with custom firmware, and a dedicated power distribution module (PDM) integrates with a CAN bus network for seamless communication between core systems.
The chassis is equally evolved. A double wishbone front suspension, motorsport-grade ABS, adaptive JRZ dampers, and a widened track ensure the car remains planted and responsive at the limit. Lightweight forged wheels and refined geometry complement the package, creating a car that can deliver on track without sacrificing road usability.
Inside, each of the 26 units will be uniquely specified. Expect materials like exposed carbon fiber, custom upholstery, a reworked dash, inductive charging, and integrated luggage space. Gunther Werks' focus on tailoring extends to every surface and switch, emphasizing craftsmanship alongside performance.
Nearly 80 percent of the components across the build, from structural elements to aero and interior details, are designed and produced in-house, giving Gunther Werks better control over performance, fit, and finish.
“The F-26 was originally developed for aerodynamic gain in racing,” says Peter Nam, CEO and Chief Creative Officer. “Blending that legacy with our Turbo platform let us create something that’s as much a design statement as it is a performance tool.”
Despite its throwback cues, this is a thoroughly modern machine, one engineered not to replicate the past but to evolve it. As Nam puts it, “Respect doesn’t mean replication, it means evolving the story with integrity.”
With production limited to only 26 cars, the F-26 Turbo Slantnose isn’t just about nostalgia, it’s about taking the raw DNA of Porsche’s past and channeling it into something sharper, rarer, and built for today’s most discerning drivers.
In an era of electric silence and self-driving ease, the GWR Turbo Slantnose reminds us what it means to feel connected. What if the future of driving still belonged to the driver?
